They are fragile in nature. They reflect a moment, a while, a life. They have short-term memories in which they record reality. Sometimes they distort it perversely.
Using them, you can even see a substitute for infinity.
Distorting Mirror 1
The crystal ones were once considered the most elegant. Did the reflections in them seem more beautiful?
Mirrors became an inspiration for me to paint artworks entitled “Distorting Mirrors“. According to the convention, the diptych multiplies its faces and will soon turn into a cycle.
I don’t follow nature. She reduces her color palette and is getting ready for winter sleep, and I, contrary to the reality that surrounds me, amaze myself with the intensity of the shades used on canvas and my creative energy.
The “Solids, Shapes and Colors” cycle has grown and is clearly dominated by the last ingredient. The first installment of this new version is the emerald “Sea Change“, followed by the three sisters “Little Twists“.

At the beginning there was a thought, impulse to change, to take creative risk, to experiment. Gradually, subsequent paintings were created, which as a result built a cycle entitled “Solids, Shapes and Colors”.
„Play It Again”, „The Serenity in Gold”, „My Turn” and the latest painting „Turn Around!” they form an aesthetically coherent whole, but individual artworks differ in form, arrangement of elements, proportion of ingredients, as if each of them was a separate melody.
Solids, shapes and colors change, but moderation remains a common feature. Isn’t moderation a synonymous with beauty?
Spring is my favorite season. It is a signal for change, or implies it itself, and I instinctively give in to the lead.
This time, I was tempted to discover a new form of expression while maintaining faithfulness to the classic definition of beauty. And so, moving within moderation, harmony and proportion, I introduced color and elements of geometry. These, in turn, are to expose the shape, because it symbolizes for me the sense of the artwork, and also determines its aesthetic value.
The reflection of inspiration and spring changes are two new paintings in the gallery: „Play It Again” and „The Serenity in Gold”. Is this the beginning of flirt or something more?
I greeted 2020 with a painting entitled „On Second Thought” On the one hand, in style it refers to its predecessors, on the other, it is a kind of technological experiment. The dynamic figure of a woman was painted in my favorite shade of old gold, while the background was created from a mixture of two shades of gesso acrylic foundation.
For a long time I was looking for the right proportion of black and white that would harmonize with gold, not overwhelming it, but creating the perfect background for a glow. „On Second Thought” will soon appear in the gallery, and for now it has become the hero of my amateur photo session.

On December 15, at the art gallery Galerii Sztuki na Prostej an art auction (by Art. Krajewski Gallery) of works on paper by recognized contemporary Polish artists will take place. In the catalog, apart from artworks by Otto Axer or Zdzisław Beksiński, there are also two propositions of my authorship. „Vibe“ and „Vibe 2“ are minimalistic watercolors inspired by the novel „The Great Gatsby“ by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
We reach the town of Angoulême in New Aquitaine on the Cheronte River in the late afternoon. The sun is slowly setting down, a gentle wind blows, the boulevards are emptying, and in the restaurants becoming more and more crowded, the dîner time begins. We admire the Romanesque cathedral, Town hall, defensive walls, and then we stroll trough the winding streets.
On one of them we notice the shop for artists and after a while we enter the magical world filled with the smell of resin, herbs and wax. Rows of tall shelves are placed under the walls, and on them one can find various tubes, bottles filled with paints, varnishes, solvents and impregnates.
This spacious room also hides a workshop, where canvas and painting looms are created. A polite elderly gentleman in elegant French explains which acrylic paint is in his opinion the best option, we exchange opinions on the colors as well. In such unusual circumstances I betray black and white. Gold and Red Ochre come back to Warsaw with me. They are filled with new creative energy. So am I.
Located on the Atlantic, Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains is the first place where we stop on our way from Bordeaux to Biarritz. We sit on a wide, sandy, almost deserted beach, eat a gâteau basque and stare at the ocean. Although it is mid-October, the sun is hot and the blue sky is only sometimes obscured by small, feathery, almost transparent clouds.
In Warsaw I left the unfinished painting. This is a continuation of „Swing Till Dawn“. The same silhouette but presented from a different perspective. I am looking for a new and fresh expression for her. In the meantime, however, my eyes are on the rough ocean. I am enjoying its harmony. I admire the high, wide, irregular waves and wonder about their nature.
From these impressions, after returning, I create my latest painting „The Geometry of Change“. Does it show a woman and her afterimage, or two characters whose figures overlap like sea waves?

Quote from „Great Gatsby“ by Francis Scott Fitzgerald was not accidentally chosen as an introduction to my watercolor cycle entitled „The Vibes“. The impulse for painting „Vibe“, the first picture of this series, was the initial scene of the Fitzgerald novel. The book narrator, Nick Carraway, is visiting his friends. In one of the rooms of their spacious house located on the shores of the bay, he notices two young women. Daisy Buchanan and Blake Jordan sprawled on a wide sofa, are absorbed in their thoughts and silent contemplation. It is a hot summer afternoon, and through the wide-open windows, a sea breeze winds into the room.
And although Blake Jordan in the Fitzgerald story plays a supporting role, but her figure and independent, mysterious personality formed heroine of my painting „Vibe“. And then the picture evolved into a triptych.
